A common complaint that I frequently hear from my patients is that of heel pain.  Also referred to as a bone bruise, bone spur, or plantar fasciitis.  The more accurate description is that of plantar fasciitis.  This can occur in men, women, people of any age - and any size.  The condition does not discriminate.  Heel pain is noted by most folks in the morning when getting up and out of bed, or after sitting for a while.  The first few steps tend to be quite painful.  The reason for the pain is the ligament called the plantar fascia.  The plantar fascia is a very thick band of tissue that runs on the bottom of the foot from the level of the heel through the arch to the ball of the foot.  Any part of the plantar fascia can become inflamed and sore; however, the most common area is the heel.  Thus, the heel pain.
